Practical Security Applications for the Mariner

4 Days

This 4 day course combines the elements of both MSC Security Watch Stander courses (basic and advanced) with additional personal defense skills, such as verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques, survivor mindset strategies, and both defensive and offensive responses based on the body’s natural reaction to an unanticipated violent event. This training is ideal for mariners who in a position of authority and responsibility, must interact with not only the public, but with coworkers in situations that may include conflict. In these situations, being able to successfully manage the incident until security forces or law enforcement arrive is of paramount importance from a safety standpoint. Topics to be covered include security watch standing principles, entry control techniques, basic searches (facility and personal), handcuffing, and verbal skills. Participants will also be instructed in the proper use of the baton (straight and expandable), unarmed self-defense, and takedowns.

Successful completion of this course does satisfy the MSC requirements for Security Watch Stander Basic and Advanced.
